What a hard-hearted way
that you gaze into me
How you hate what you see
that reminds you of you
I'm not brave, but I'm not afraid
of mistakes I have made
But you won't let them fade
What can I do for you?
Livin's hard enough
I would date call this love
Still I feel something there
Wish that I didn't care
At least I no longer fear the mirror, I might
Stand in unbecoming light
and it's alright
Fitful wings will cut the air
Into packs of magic cards
Disappear my heavy heart
I came out in one piece
What a hard-hearted way
that you gaze into me
How you hate what you see
That reminds you of you
It took time, really had to fight
oh, my head wasn't right
Now it's hard not to cry
When I think of you
Livin's hard enough
I wouldn't dare call this love
Still I feel something there
Wish that i didn't care
At least I no longer fear the mirror, I might
stand in unbecoming light
and it's alright
I played it to the hilt because
I had nowhere to run
Jesus, look how far I've come
does my strength scare you?

Before you go throwing in the towel
Let's try singing louder
than our stomach's can growl
The china doesn't match
but you can't tell, by candlelight
Oh, we didn't pay the electric bill again
It's possible that we won't get ahead
If you walk the tightrope
You must hang up the net
And make it to the end
With that you've got
Maybe it's not much
But with a little magic it's enough
Broomhorse, broomhorse, broomhorse
This is what we've got, let's show them what we're made of
Broomhorse, Broomhorse, broomhorse,
To thine own self be true, godspeed to you
It's hard to say which way the wind will blow
We're two kids in a trenchcoat
We got into the show
It's not the eye that looks
Oh, it's the lense
That you're looking through
And everything is possible with you

They told you not to put
all your eggs in one basket
To have a plan b for safer landing
But the universe
Wants you to ask it
For that which you need
and it will answer
A little hope makes its nest
in the rafters
And sings a sweet song
when you are not strong
You must have integrity
as you go after
that which your heart seeks
until it's mastered
Because they are afraid
They will say things to scare you
Wish someone told me
It would be lonely
And you'll find
That the valleys prepare you
The hills are easy
But they don't dare you
To cut your path in the grass
find a new way
No map will serve you
So let your heart stray
Oh, if you get lost
it will soon be a new day
Just be persistent
and mean what you say
They told you not to put
all your eggs in one basket
to have a plan b for safer landing
But the universe wants you to ask it
for that which you need
and it will answer
Oh, you have to want it
and see it so clearly
that when your heart breaks
you have what it takes
to push through the pain
and keep on when you're weary
truth above all else
tell it sincerely

The spring is in the streets again
And too many seasons gone by
We move to cruise and stare at ourselves
Hoping to find
Someone half blind
somebody who
will make us new
to hold in the night
guard us from fright
change all that's gone for the new
While in our very city
there lives a unicorn of old
The Queen that holds the unicorn
Will be reborn
his mighty horn
falls on that day
storms pass away
night turns to day
the whole world is gay
Angels descend from the sky
The trucks are cold and barren again
and the numbers
have all turned to jade
I search for a way
To tear out my eyes
so I won't see
the dying tree
fall to it's knees
And as it must
with fragments of lust
return to dust
then we are gone in the night
While in our very city
there lives a real life unicorn
the queen who captures the unicorn
Is virgin again
just touching it's hand
wisdom is hers
focus from blurs
posessing the key
brings life to the tree
and makes it grow taller again
The sanctuary's crowded again
the poisons are all passed around
Each star walks in
we turn to the door
our eyes leave our head
the zombies are dead
just walking around
held to the grown
our feet are bound
obeying each sound
waiting to meet god knows who

Tele Novella Austin, Texas
Tele Novella is a project out of Lockhart, Texas--a small town lost in time---where their classic and sincere pop songwriting is slowly processed through a loner medieval-tonk machine and then captured on cassette 8-track. Their latest record, Poet's Tooth, steers the duo’s whimsical western-tinted balladry in fascinating new directions. It's out now on Kill Rock Stars. ... more
